Competitive Cheerleading

For the 2011-2012 season, Thunder All-Stars Cheerleading is offering the competitive programs outlined below. This season our focus is on developing each individual as an athlete who understands the importance of teamwork, dedication, and commitment.

TINY PURPLE HEARTS

This program is for children ages 3 to 5 years old. This program is designed to introduce children to the basics of cheerleading which include stunting, jumping, tumbling, dancing, and learning basic motions. The stunts and activities are designed with this young age group in mind. Class sizes are small to ensure that cheerleaders receive the support needed to develop and advance. At competitions they compete in the non-competitive division which ensures that cheerleaders learn the importance of having fun in a competitive setting.

MINI LITTLE LILACS

This program is for children ages 8 years old and younger. This program teaches children introductory jump combinations and stunts. Coaches teach children how to somersault, cartwheel, and round-off. The Mini level 1 team focuses on developing their overall skills while building friendships and having fun.

YOUTH LAVENDER

This program is for children ages 11 and under. Children need to be able to perform a somersault and cartwheel. This program focuses on teaching more advanced skills than the tiny and mini programs. Children will begin to learn stunting and jump combinations. They will also increase their flexibility and strength through conditioning programs.

YOUTH INDIGO

This program is for children ages 11 and under who have previous cheerleading, gymnastics, or tumbling experience. Children must be able to perform a round-off, back walkover, or front walkover. This program is more advanced than the other tiny, mini, and youth programs. Children will increase their flexibility and strength through conditioning. They will also develop their jumping skills focusing on triple series jump combinations.

JUNIOR VIOLET

This program is for children ages 14 and under who are new or relatively new to cheerleading. Children must be able to somersault and cartwheel. This program helps children improve their cheerleading skills especially in terms of their jumping and stunting abilities. Children will increase their flexibility and strength through conditioning.

JUNIOR AMETHYST

This program is for children ages 14 and under who have previous cheerleading, gymnastics, or tumbling experience. Children must be able to perform a round-off, back walkover, or front walkover. This program is more advanced than the other junior program, and is meant for children who have that competitive spirit in them. Children learn all elements of cheerleading.

SENIOR ROYAL

This program is for children ages 18 and under who are advanced in stunting, jumping, and tumbling. Children must be able to perform a front or back walkover, and a back handspring. This is the most thrilling program as athletes learn how to perform advanced stunts.
